Let's Go Fishing in Alexandria

Welcome to Alexandria. We hope you enjoy your stay with us here in the heart of Douglas County, near the home of the Kensington Runestone. We have some more big events planned for the summer of 2009.

Let’s Go Fishing is a non-profit organization (incorporated in Minnesota as a 501 c3*) whose principal objective is to provide community Seniors 55 and older with fishing and boating excursions at no cost. The mission of Let’s Go Fishing is to give back to community Seniors some small token of appreciation for all they have done to build the community we so often take for granted. We want to provide Seniors with an opportunity to spend quality time on Douglas County lakes, with friends, families, and acquaintances that will create memories that will last a lifetime - for the Seniors and for all the volunteers.

The Let’s go Fishing program is for all Seniors. The Let’s Go Fishing Pontoon is specially designed to provide full accessibility for Seniors. The Pontoon has been designed to accommodate Seniors by having higher rails, captain’s chairs, and wider door access to accommodate wheelchairs. We provide everything necessary for a fishing, or boating tour, including rods, reels, bait, life preservers, beverages and a snack. The only thing you need if you want to fish, is a Minnesota Fishing License where required**. We also have private boats that are available for up to two riders at a time.

The boating excursions are led by volunteers of the community who are experienced and who have completed the safety courses required by Let’s Go Fishing. We are always looking for more volunteers!

Since the delivery of our own pontoon in late April, the Alexandria Chapter of Let’s Go Fishing has been busy planning outings - fishing and just pleasure cruises. We have been working hard to bring this program to the Seniors of the greater Alexandria area. We look forward to making a lot of new friends among Seniors and between dedicated volunteers.

* All donations to the Let's Go Fishing program are 100% tax deductible.
** Senior residents of certified assisted living facilities and/or nursing homes do not require a Minnesota fishing license.
